The 5-Penny New Music Concert series is recognized

as one of Canada’s outstanding venues for the performance of new music.

Among the eminent artists who have appeared:

are saxophonist Jean-Michel Goury, electric guitarist Tim Brady, bass-baritone Michel Ducharme, guitarist Arturo Parra, and conductor Brian Current, as well as ensembles such as Proxima Centauri, Erosonic, Estria, Anubis Quartet, and the Molinari String Quartet. Local artists have also contributed greatly to the series, notably pianist Yoko Hirota and the members of the Silver Birch String Quartet.

The series has introduced a wide range of repertoire to Northern Ontario audiences, including the world premieres of works by distinguished Canadian composers such as Robert Lemay, James Rolfe, and Brian Harman.  The series has also paid homage to international composers including Toru Takemitsu, Witold Lutosławski, Luciano Berio, and Elliott Carter.
